A Productive day of digging

I am overwhelmed with all the volunteer help yesterday.

Oliver Solmitz and his friends from Cambridge and Boston Cheryl and Grant. Brendan and Ian Shea, Jenna Halloran and Tom Wengler.

We managed to get half the earth off. As I write this, Ollie and Tom have been digging over an hour . Jenna and Melissa will be here soon. I must get out there and help. Yesterday I bought pizza, protein bars ,bananas, coffee and juice plus I made kale soup. Jenna's mother made some pasta with sausage and tomato sauce. We kept the stove going in the gallery for warmth and food.

It was a happy day for me. I can't get over the hardy, sweet, and altruistic volunteers!

Thank you everyone!!!!

There are eight of us digging at one time.

Here is another angle with us all digging.

This trunk is from a 30 foot cedar tree on top of the gallery.

These are photos taken last night at 6 P.M. with Jenna, Ollie and I still digging. Jenna borrowed some outdoor lights!

Malcolm Wells - Perpetuating His Vision

Deemed the father of modern earth-sheltered architecture, the late Malcolm Wells imagined a future in which society worked with nature, rather than against it. Throughout the restoration of the Underground Art Gallery, those involved are committed to continuing Mr. Wells' work of restoring the earth's surface to a more natural habitat for a sustainable future.
